Mike Shaver joins Real Ventures team
Canadian VC firm Real Ventures has hired Mike Shaver to join its Toronto firm as General Partner as part of its broader effort to expand the firm.
Shaver has known the founding partners of Real Ventures since its formative years. Real Ventures says he has a phenomenal track record building product and engineering teams and scaling organizations. He has also built developer ecosystems and has a long standing passion for mentoring early-stage entrepreneurs. So, when he recently decided to move back to Canada from Silicon Valley, it was only natural we would discuss the opportunity to join the Real Ventures team, the firm says.
Shaver was most recently Director of Engineering at Facebook, where he was responsible for Facebook Mobile. As an early member of Facebook’s mobile team, he led its transformation from a small group of engineers to thousands of people creating the most widely used mobile product in the world. Prior to Facebook, he spent six years at Mozilla where he built and led the engineering team responsible for creating Firefox and was also its chief evangelist.
In addition to Shaver’s extensive operating experience, he truly embodies the values and mission of Real Ventures, the firm says, adding that he cares deeply about having an impact on and contributing to Canada’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and is highly motivated to identify and support early-stage entrepreneurs.
