Q3 2018 VC & PE Activity: CVCA Data Sneak Peek

October 26, 2018 | By: Darrell Pinto

According to preliminary data (final data is targeted to be published on November 22), VC investment slowed from its record pace last year. $651M was invested over 126 deals, a 44% decline compared to the third quarter of 2017. The YTD 2018 investment totaled $2.4B over 437 deals, down 12% from the $2.7B in the same period in 2017.

High valuations continue to stifle PE deal flow with third quarter investment totaling only $1.8B over 102 deals, down significantly from $7.6B over 166 deals in Q3 2017. Unlike the first two quarters, there were no mega-deals that buoyed overall Canadian activity in Q3 with 93% of deals under $50M. This brings the YTD total PE investment to $16.4B over 395 deals, down 16% from the $21.7B over 459 deals in the same period last year.
